Magic Auth signs a user in with a six-digit code sent to their email. They do not choose a password. The code goes out through whatever email provider is active on that environment, including Authdog's managed provider until you connect your own.
Turn it on
In the Authdog console:
- Select the project and environment.
- Confirm Notifications > Providers has an email path you trust for this environment. Managed delivery works. A connected provider such as Postmark or Resend sends once it is active.
- Open Authentication > Methods.
- Enable Magic Auth.
The from name and reply-to live under Notifications > Configuration. They apply to the code email the same way they apply to other templates.
Test it
- Open the environment's hosted sign-in page.
- Request a Magic Auth code for an inbox you control.
- Enter the six-digit code and confirm a session is created.
- Request another code and confirm the previous one no longer works.
Use the production email provider when you enable Magic Auth in production. A code sent by the development provider does not prove production delivery.
