Magic Auth signs a user in with a six-digit code sent to their email. They do not choose a password. The code goes out through whatever email provider is active on that environment, including Authdog's managed provider until you connect your own.

## Turn it on

In the [Authdog console](https://console.authdog.com):

1. Select the project and environment.
2. Confirm **Notifications > Providers** has an email path you trust for this environment. Managed delivery works. A connected provider such as [Postmark](/marketplace/postmark/setup) or [Resend](/marketplace/resend/setup) sends once it is active.
3. Open **Authentication > Methods**.
4. Enable **Magic Auth**.

The from name and reply-to live under **Notifications > Configuration**. They apply to the code email the same way they apply to other templates.

## Test it

1. Open the environment's hosted sign-in page.
2. Request a Magic Auth code for an inbox you control.
3. Enter the six-digit code and confirm a session is created.
4. Request another code and confirm the previous one no longer works.

Use the production email provider when you enable Magic Auth in production. A code sent by the development provider does not prove production delivery.
