WhatsApp sign-in sends a one-time code on WhatsApp. It uses the Twilio connection on the same environment. There is no separate WhatsApp credential in Authdog. The From number on that Twilio provider is sent with a whatsapp: prefix, so the number must already be a WhatsApp sender in Twilio.
Connect Twilio
In the Authdog console:
- Select the project and environment.
- Follow Set up Twilio and set From number to the WhatsApp-enabled sender, in E.164, for example
+15551234567. - Send the SMS test only to confirm the Twilio credentials. WhatsApp delivery is a separate check below.
A Messaging Service SID can send ordinary SMS. WhatsApp still needs the From number. Leave the number blank and WhatsApp sends fail even when SMS tests succeed.
Enable WhatsApp
- Open Authentication > Methods.
- Enable WhatsApp.
- Open the hosted sign-in page and request a WhatsApp code for a number that can receive WhatsApp from that sender.
- Enter the code and confirm a session is created.
Enable SMS as well only if you also want SMS codes. The two methods are independent toggles on the same Twilio provider.
Repeat in production with the production Twilio account and a production WhatsApp sender. The development sender does not carry over.
